Qiqihar Medical University (QMU), located in the hometown of world-famous red-crowned cranes, stands by the scenic Nenjiang River. The University was founded in 1946 with a glorious history of 80 years. The campus covers a planning area of 618,000 square meters, of which the building area is 320,000 square meters. As a national civilized unit and one of the top ten harmonious campuses in Heilongjiang Province, the university has been honored with the first batch of pilot universities for the ‘Outstanding Doctor Education and Training Program’ initiated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the first batch of ‘Large Ideological and Political Course’ (anti-epidemic spirit) practical teaching bases across the country, and the first batch of education practice bases for consolidating the sense of community of the Chinese nation in Heilongjiang Province. It also undertakes important responsibilities such as the training base for humanistic medical skills of Chinese physicians and the medical education management center of Heilongjiang Province. In 2025, the university was awarded the title of ‘National Civilized Campus’.

QMU is authorized as a characteristic applied-type undergraduate demonstration university in Heilongjiang Province, with the main campus covering a planning area of 618,000 square meters, of which the building area is 320,000 square meters. The total value of QMU fixed assets is 1.395 billion yuan, among which the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 355 million yuan. Currently, the university has 17,332 students of various types, including postgraduate students, undergraduate students, international students, and adult education students. The faculty team of the university is strong, with 6,461 staff members and medical personnel, among whom 1,210 have senior professional titles or above; among the full-time teachers at the main campus, those with senior professional titles or above account for 61.9%, and teachers with doctoral or master's degrees account for as high as 93.3%. The university has also 3 members of the Deputy Chairpersons and Members of the Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, 12 experts with State Government Special Allowance, experts with Provincial Government Special Allowance, 23 leaders of provincial leading talent teams, provincial teaching masters, and 69 people including provincial Long Jiang Famous Doctors and outstanding young experts in the provincial health system.

The University has 20 teaching and teaching auxiliary institutions, offering 25 undergraduate majors, covering 5 disciplines such as medicine, science, engineering, management and law. Among them, psychiatry, nursing and pharmacy were selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 9 majors, including clinical medicine, clinical pharmacy and preventive medicine, were provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points. The University has 5 national first-class courses, 28 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 5 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial teaching teams, and 1 provincial university virtual teaching and research room, and successfully passed the Ministry of Education clinical medicine professional certification, nursing professional certification, pharmacy professional certification, undergraduate education and teaching evaluation. The University has been approved as a project construction unit to award new doctoral degrees, and the clinical medicine discipline ranks among the top 1% of ESI global rankings.

In terms of the construction of academic degrees, the university has 2 master's degree authorization first-level disciplines, namely Basic Medicine and Biology, as well as seven master's professional degree categories, namely Medical Technology, Pharmacy, Clinical Medicine, Oral Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, and Applied Psychology. The university has ‘Double First-Class Advantage and Characteristic Disciplines’, provincial leading talent teams, municipal leading talent teams, and key disciplines of the college, totaling 56. Within the university, there are provincial key laboratories, provincial engineering technology research centers, provincial international science and technology cooperation platforms, provincial clinical medicine research centers, provincial technology transfer demonstration institutions, provincial university-enterprise co-built engineering technology centers, provincial key laboratories of universities, provincial Association of Science and Technology's Haizhi Workstation, doctoral postgraduate research stations, expert and scholar stations, health inspection centers, etc. as research institutions. The research strength is strong. In the past three years, 647 scientific research projects have been obtained, and 21.3487 million yuan of funding has been approved. Among them, there are 6 national natural science foundation projects and 100 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects; 394 papers have been published in three major databases as the first corresponding author unit, including 32 papers in the first zone of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Three journals are issued by the university---Chinese Modern Nursing, Nervous Diseases and Mental Hygiene and Journal of Qiqihar Medical University, which are issued domestically. Chinese Modern Nursing, Nervous Diseases and Mental Hygiene are the national core periodicals of statistical source.

In terms of clinical practice, the University has 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 7 non-directly affiliated hospitals and 1 directly affiliated clinical pathology diagnosis center, 23 teaching hospitals and 50 practice bases, and the number of beds in the directly affiliated hospitals has reached 4280, which can fully meet the needs of clinical teaching and production practice. In recent years, the University has vigorously promoted the construction of academic hospitals, in-depth implementation of medical education coordination, and comprehensively promoted the integrated development of medical education and research in affiliated medical institutions. The three affiliated hospitals are all Class III Grade A hospitals, which have been approved to become the national standardized training base for resident doctors, the national clinical pharmacist training base, the national Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) standardized certification hospital, the national tumor (digestive system) multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment pilot hospital, and the national drug clinical trial medical institution, diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules sub-center of Chinese Alliance Against Lung Cancer, national clinical research sub-center for respiratory disease, certified unit by national standardized Chest Pain Center and Metabolic Management Center, the first batch of National Breast Cancer Standard Diagnosis and Treatment Quality Control Pilot Center, the sixth batch of China Heart Failure Center construction unit.

In aspects of foreign exchange and cooperation, the University actively expands its international vision, and has established friendly cooperative relations with well-known universities and medical institutions in more than 10 countries, including Russia, the United States, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, India, Kyrgyzstan, and has carried out extensive international cooperation and academic exchanges. The University cooperates with Chita State Medical Academy of Russia to organize three undergraduate education programs of clinical medicine, stomatology and psychiatry, and has established ‘China Qiqihar Medical University Clinical Pathological Sub-centers’ in Nepal and Kyrgyzstan. The University has been approved to enroll and educate international students under the Heilongjiang Provincial Government Scholarship, Scholarship for International Students from Eurasian Countries, and granted with the quality to cultivate graduate international students in China.
